Everest Base Camp 13 Days Trek – Trip Overview

The 13-day Everest Base Camp Trek is a thrilling journey to the iconic Everest Base Camp (5,364m), the starting point for expeditions to the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. Designed to balance efficiency and acclimatization, this itinerary lets you explore the heart of the Khumbu region without feeling rushed, all while immersing yourself in the natural grandeur and cultural richness of the Himalayas.

Your adventure begins with a breathtaking flight to Lukla, followed by a scenic trail through charming Sherpa villages like Phakding and Namche Bazaar. At Namche, you’ll spend a day acclimatizing — exploring traditional homes, local markets, and nearby viewpoints offering glimpses of Everest. As you climb higher, the landscape transforms from lush forests and suspension bridges to vast alpine meadows, ancient monasteries, and rugged glacial paths.

Along the way, you’ll pass Tengboche Monastery, the most significant spiritual site in the region, and pay respects at memorial cairns honoring climbers who dared to scale Everest. After reaching Lobuche and Gorak Shep, the final stretch leads you to the legendary Everest Base Camp, where the Khumbu Glacier and surrounding icefalls remind you of the mighty summit just beyond.

The next morning, a pre-dawn hike to Kala Patthar (5,555m) offers unmatched, panoramic sunrise views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, and Lhotse, making for a powerful and unforgettable climax to your trek.

Your descent retraces the route at a brisker pace, giving you new perspectives on the same stunning scenery. In just 13 days, you’ll complete a trek that is physically demanding, emotionally rewarding, and spiritually uplifting — a true Himalayan adventure.

Important Pre-Trek Information

Arrival in Kathmandu

We strongly recommend that you arrive in Kathmandu by 3:00 PM at least one day before the trek starts. This allows time for a final gear check, last-minute shopping, and detailed pre-trek preparation.

 Online Trip Briefing

Once you book the trek and submit your required documents, we will schedule an online trek briefing session. This briefing will cover essential topics such as:

  • Packing list and equipment checklist
  • Daily trekking itinerary
  • Altitude preparation and health tips
  • Weather expectations and trail conditions

You will receive available dates and times for your session via email after booking. This ensures you’re 100% prepared before you begin your trek.

Lukla Flight Information – What You Need to Know

Flights between Kathmandu and Lukla are often subject to weather-related delays or cancellations, as the Himalayan weather can change rapidly. To avoid the risk of missing your international return flight, we strongly recommend adding at least two buffer days to your overall itinerary.

Seasonal Flight Changes

During the peak trekking seasons — March, April, May, October, and November — flights to and from Lukla typically operate out of Ramechhap Airport (Manthali) instead of Kathmandu. This change is made to reduce air traffic congestion at Kathmandu Airport.

If your flight departs from Ramechhap, you will need to:

  • Leave Kathmandu around 12:30 AM
  • Drive approximately 5 hours to Ramechhap
  • Board an early morning flight to Lukla on the same day your trek begins

This overnight transfer is arranged before your trek starts, and our team will provide all necessary coordination.

Off-Peak Travel

During the non-peak months, flights usually operate directly from Kathmandu to Lukla, offering a more convenient start to your trek. However, weather conditions can still impact flight schedules, so flexibility is essential regardless of the season.

Everest Basecamp -13 Days Trek Itinerary

Day 1Flight from Kathmandu/Manthali to Lukla (2,850m / 9,350ft), Trek to Phakding (2,650m / 8,562ft)

Your trek begins with a flight to Lukla, either directly from Kathmandu (40 minutes) or via Manthali (20 minutes) during peak seasons, after a 5-hour early morning drive. After landing in Lukla (2,850m), the trail heads toward Phakding (2,650m), covering 6.2 km in about 3 hours. Along the way, you’ll pass through Chaurikharka village, cross hanging bridges, and walk beside the Dudh Koshi River. This short and gradual descent helps your body begin the acclimatization process. Once in Phakding, you can visit the peaceful Rimishung Monastery. Overnight stay at Khumbu Travel Lodge with standard meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) included.

Day 2Trek from Phakding (2,650m / 8,562ft) to Namche Bazaar (3,440m / 11,286ft)

After breakfast in Phakding, your trail follows the Dudh Koshi River through pine and rhododendron forests. You’ll cross several suspension bridges, including the iconic Hillary Bridge, before beginning a steady ascent. The path winds through small Sherpa settlements like Monjo and Jorsalle, where you’ll enter Sagarmatha National Park—tickets are checked here. The climb to Namche Bazaar is steep but rewarding, with glimpses of Mount Everest peeking above Lhotse and Nuptse on clear days. Covering 9.4 km in 6–7 hours, this stretch requires steady pacing and hydration. Upon reaching Namche, a lively Sherpa town set on a mountain bowl, you’ll settle into your lodge, enjoy dinner, and rest to help your body adjust to the higher altitude. Overnight at Panorama Lodge or a similar teahouse with meals included.

Day 3Rest Day and Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar

Today is your first acclimatization day, essential for adjusting to the altitude and preventing AMS. Though it’s a rest day, it’s best to stay active. After breakfast, you can take short hikes to nearby viewpoints such as Everest View Hotel (3,880m) or explore Khumjung village and the famous Hillary School. You’ll also visit Syangboche Airstrip and enjoy panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. Namche itself is a lively hub with cafes, bakeries, gear shops, and a Saturday market if your timing aligns. This stop helps your body adapt while giving you a glimpse into the vibrant Sherpa lifestyle. Overnight stay at Sakura Guest House (attached bathroom), with meals included (Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner).

Day 4Trek from Namche (3,440m / 11,285ft) to Tengboche (3,855m / 12,850ft)

Leaving Namche behind, today’s scenic 9.2 km trail starts with a gentle walk along the ridge with spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. The path descends to Phunki Thenga (3,250m), a riverside village where you’ll stop for lunch. Afterward, a challenging uphill climb through pine forests brings you to Tengboche. This peaceful settlement is home to the largest monastery in the region—Tengboche Monastery—set against a majestic Himalayan backdrop. You’ll likely witness monks chanting during the evening prayers, adding a spiritual essence to your stay. Overnight stay at Hotel Good Luck with standard meals (Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner).

Day 5 Trek from Tengboche (3,855m / 12,850ft) to Dingboche (4,360m / 14,290ft)

Today’s trek covers approximately 12 km and introduces you to the high alpine terrain. After breakfast, descend through rhododendron forests and cross the Imja Khola. Along the way, you’ll pass Pangboche village, the highest permanent settlement in the region, and enjoy close-up views of Ama Dablam. The trail then climbs gradually, following the Lobuche River toward the windswept valley of Dingboche. Here, you’ll notice stone-walled fields that protect barley, buckwheat, and potatoes from the wind—a unique sight at this altitude. Overnight stay at Hotel Good Luck with meals included (Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner).

Day 6Rest Day and Acclimatization at Dingboche (4,360m / 14,290ft)

Today is your second acclimatization stop, giving your body time to adjust to higher altitudes. After breakfast, you’ll take a light hike above Dingboche to a ridge offering 360° views of the Himalayan giants—Lhotse, Makalu, Island Peak, Cho Oyu, and the majestic rear view of Ama Dablam. The walk is slow and steady but extremely rewarding. You’ll also get a fantastic overlook of the Khumbu Khola valley stretching toward the north. The village itself, surrounded by stone-walled fields, feels timeless—remote, quiet, and sacred in its solitude. Overnight stay at Hotel Good Luck with standard meals (Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner).

Day 7Trek from Dingboche (4,360m) to Lobuche (4,930m / 16,175ft)

Today’s trek gains altitude as you move deeper into the Himalayas. After a short uphill from Dingboche, the trail levels through a glacial valley. You’ll pass small seasonal settlements and climb steadily toward the memorials at Thukla Pass, built in honor of mountaineers who lost their lives on Everest. These monuments set a reflective tone before the final stretch to Lobuche. As the air gets thinner and the mountains rise even closer, you’ll feel the raw power of the region. Overnight stay at Himalayan Eco Resort with meals included (Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner).

Day 8Trek from Lobuche to Everest Base Camp (5,364m), back to Gorak Shep (5,185m)

This is the big day. After breakfast in Lobuche, follow the rocky trail along the Khumbu Glacier’s edge toward Gorak Shep. From here, you’ll make the final approach to Everest Base Camp, navigating glacier paths and boulder-strewn terrain. Reaching EBC (5,364m) is a milestone—you’ve made it to the base of the world’s highest peak. Celebrate with photos and soak in the moment surrounded by ice seracs, prayer flags, and fellow trekkers. After spending time at Base Camp, return to Gorak Shep for the night. Overnight stay at Buddha Lodge with standard meals (Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner)

Day 9 Hike to Kala Patthar (5,555m), Return to Gorak Shep, Trek to Pheriche (4,250m)

Before dawn, begin your climb to Kala Patthar (5,555m), the best viewpoint in the region. Watch the golden sunrise strike Mt. Everest, casting a glow on its peak and surrounding giants. After enjoying this bucket-list experience, descend to Gorak Shep for breakfast, then continue down the valley toward Pheriche. The descent gives your body relief from the high altitude, and you’ll sleep easier at the lower elevation. Overnight stay at Himalayan Hotel with meals included (Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner).

Day 10 Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar (3,440m / 11,285ft)

The journey continues downhill along the Dudh Koshi River. You’ll retrace your steps past Pangboche and Tengboche, where you may revisit the monastery or grab tea with a view. The forested path takes you through familiar sights, but the views always feel fresh and new. After 6–7 hours of trekking, you’ll arrive back at Namche Bazaar—a bustling comfort after days in the high Himalayas. Overnight stay at Sakura Guest House (attached bathroom), with standard meals (Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner).

Day 11Trek from Namche Bazaar (3,440m) to Lukla (2,850m / 9,350ft)

Your final trekking day retraces the familiar trail through the Dudh Koshi valley. As you descend, the perspective shifts—offering new views of villages, prayer stones, and alpine forest. Expect to cross multiple suspension bridges and pass through vibrant Sherpa villages like Monjo and Phakding before making the final climb to Lukla. It’s a reflective walk—each step bringing the Himalayas behind you. Overnight stay at Comfort Inn (attached bathroom), with standard meals (Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner).

Day 12 Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu/Manthali (2,850m / 9,350ft)

Depending on the season, you’ll either fly directly to Kathmandu (40 minutes) or to Manthali (20 minutes), followed by a 5-hour drive to the capital. Helicopter options to Kathmandu are available at an extra cost, especially helpful during peak traffic seasons. Back in Kathmandu, the rest of your day is free for rest, shopping, or exploring the city. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner hosted by the DWT team—celebrating the memories and achievements of your incredible journey. Included meals: Breakfast + Farewell Dinner

Day 13Farewell
