Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Overview

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is an ideal introduction to the Annapurna region, blending cultural immersion with breathtaking mountain views without the challenge of a full Base Camp trek. Perfect for families and less experienced trekkers, this short 5-day journey brings you deep into Nepal’s pristine landscapes while offering meaningful encounters with the local Gurung, Magar, and Thakali communities.

Your adventure starts with a scenic drive from Pokhara—the vibrant lake city—through Tikhedunga to Ulleri, where your gentle trek to Ghorepani begins. Along the route, you’ll pass lush terraced fields, colorful rhododendron forests, and winding river valleys that beautifully showcase the lower Annapurna foothills.

The trek’s highlight is an early-morning hike to Poon Hill at 3,210 meters. From this panoramic viewpoint, enjoy a stunning sunrise illuminating over 20 major peaks, including Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. Afterwards, the trail continues to Tadapani, where diverse forests and tranquil landscapes captivate the senses.

On day three, you descend to Jhinu Danda to soak in natural hot springs—an ideal way to relax after trekking. The journey then continues through traditional villages decorated with monasteries, mani walls, and prayer flags as you trek from Jhinu Danda to Siwa/Ghandruk Phedi. Finally, a drive back to Pokhara offers time to unwind and enjoy lakeside activities before your return to Kathmandu.

Note:
This package includes a 6–7 hour tourist bus ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Alternatively, you can opt for a 20-minute flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara at an additional cost. We request that clients arrive in Kathmandu before 3 pm, one day prior to the trek departure for last-minute preparations.

Online Trip Briefing

Our online briefing session is designed to answer all your questions about the trek, including what to bring (equipment checklist), detailed itinerary information, and what to expect on the trails. After a nourishing breakfast the next morning, you will enjoy a short drive from Pokhara through the beautiful landscape to Nayapul / Birethanti and then to Ulleri. From Ulleri, we begin the trek to Ghorepani – the destination for the day. The trails provide us with astonishing views of the Annapurnas, Machhapuchhare, Dhaulagiri, and Hiunchuli.

All the while, you will be ascending gently through the rhododendron forest to reach Nanghethani (2460m). We continue forward to Ghorepani. The hillside just below Ghorepani is home to more than eight rhododendron species – Nepal’s national flower.

This season is marked by dry weather, vibrant golden forests, and comfortable temperatures (5°C to 20°C). Cultural celebrations like Dashain and Tihar also enhance the overall experience.

Winter (December–February):
Though the days are sunny and offer excellent mountain views, temperatures can fall as low as -5°C in higher regions. Suitable for those who enjoy trekking in quiet, snowy settings.

Summer/Monsoon (June–August):
Temperatures vary between 15°C and 25°C. While trails can get muddy and slippery due to rain, the lush green surroundings and fewer crowds may appeal to thrill-seeking adventurers.

Typical Day on the Trek

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Package Information

Arrival, Welcome, and Trek Start
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representative will be there to greet you. They will hold a sign displaying your name and present you with a traditional Marigold garland before escorting you to your hotel by private vehicle. We recommend arriving in Kathmandu at least one day prior to the trek departure to allow time for preparation. The next day, you will enjoy a scenic tourist bus ride to Pokhara, where your trek begins. If preferred, private transportation or flights to Pokhara can be arranged for an additional fee.

Accommodations
Throughout the trek, you will lodge in comfortable guesthouses along the trail. The package includes three nights in twin-sharing rooms located in Ghorepani, Tadapani, and Jhinu Danda. At Ghorepani and Jhinu Danda, rooms with attached bathrooms are provided.

Your stay in Jhinu Danda will be in a standard room. Additionally, you will spend two nights at a hotel in Pokhara featuring attached bathrooms, TV, 24-hour hot water, electricity, and laundry services.

Most lodges offer electricity for charging devices, Wi-Fi access, and hot showers, although these may incur additional charges.

Please note that accommodation in Kathmandu before and after the trek is not included but can be arranged upon request.

Meals
During the trek, the package covers five breakfasts, four lunches, and three dinners served on a full-board basis. The menu offers wholesome, nutritious meals such as oatmeal, eggs, Tibetan bread, soups, momos, pasta, and vegetable dishes.

We recommend consuming fresh vegetables and warm beverages like ginger, green, or garlic tea, while avoiding non-vegetarian foods and alcohol. Beverages—including hot drinks (tea/coffee), cold drinks, and alcohol—are not included in the package. Meals in Pokhara are also excluded.

Luggage
A porter will carry your luggage during the trek, with a maximum allowance of 9 kg per trekker, covering all your trekking essentials. You may store any non-essential belongings at the trekking company’s Kathmandu office at no extra charge. Since two trekkers share one porter, we suggest pairing up with a fellow trekker and packing your items into a single duffle bag with a capacity of 60 liters or more.

Facilities and Essentials

Water
Although bottled water is available for purchase along the trail, a more sustainable and cost-effective choice is to carry your own refillable bottle and buy boiled or filtered water at local teahouses. We highly recommend using water purification tablets or drops. Avoid drinking untreated water from rivers, taps, or wells as it may be contaminated and unsafe.

Communication
Mobile network coverage can be spotty in higher elevations, but a local SIM card—readily available in Kathmandu—can improve your connectivity. Our trek leaders stay in touch with our main office daily, ensuring your journey proceeds smoothly. In case of emergencies, our Kathmandu team is always on standby to assist.

Travel Essentials

Visa
All foreign travelers, except Indian nationals, must obtain a visa to enter Nepal. Visas are available upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport or designated border entry points. Be sure your passport has at least six months of validity. Carry a passport-sized photo and visa fee (around USD 50 for a 30-day stay) when applying.

Travel Insurance
A comprehensive travel insurance policy is mandatory for this trek. It should cover medical expenses and include helicopter evacuation from high altitudes. A copy of your insurance policy certificate is required during booking. Please verify with your insurer that coverage extends up to the maximum altitude of this trek.

Currency Exchange
The official currency in Nepal is the Nepali Rupee (NPR). Major currencies such as USD, GBP, and EURO can be exchanged at legal money changers or banks in Kathmandu and Pokhara. As of now, 1 USD equals approximately 133 NPR. ATMs are available and accept international cards, though they charge small transaction fees. Be sure to bring only clean, untorn currency notes, as worn notes might be rejected by banks.

Extra Expenses
While the trekking package covers core costs, you should budget for additional personal expenses. These may include snacks, extra food items, beverages (including tea, coffee, soft drinks, and alcohol), your travel insurance premium (if not purchased beforehand), and staff tips. Plan to carry about USD 15 per day for miscellaneous spending. Currency exchange services are not available in remote trekking areas, so we advise exchanging enough money while in Kathmandu.

Trip Conclusion

Farewell Dinner
After returning to Kathmandu, we’ll host a farewell dinner where you can share your experience and offer feedback. We will also present you with a trek completion certificate.

Departure
On your departure day, we’ll drop you off at Tribhuvan International Airport in a private vehicle. Please confirm your hotel name, room number, and flight date in advance.

Trek Bookings

Private Treks Only
All our treks are private. We don’t merge individual clients into shared groups. The larger your group, the more cost-effective the trip becomes. For groups of 12 or more, we assign an assistant guide.

Everest DestinyTrek is a licensed operator with over 12 years of experience. To confirm your reservation, a 10% deposit is required. The remaining amount is payable upon arrival in Kathmandu. Payment methods include bank transfer, credit card, Wise, Western Union, or cash.

Last-Minute Reservations
You can book at the last minute by submitting the required documents—such as insurance—and paying the full amount at least 24 hours before the trek. Weather or logistical issues may cause unexpected delays. For urgent bookings, contact at +977-9851191802 or email: info@everestdestinytreks.com.

Flexible Departures
While our treks have scheduled departure dates, we can accommodate your preferred start date. Just let us know in advance, and we’ll arrange everything accordingly.

We’re excited to accompany you on the breathtaking journey to Poon Hill, a trek filled with panoramic beauty, cultural richness, and unforgettable memories.
